Bay County Airport

The Panama City Bay County Airport is no more known by this name. In fact this airport has an interesting history of names behind it. The name of this airport was changed several times as it went from one hand of ownership to the other and as it developed through the ages. It is now called the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

The arrangements at this airport and its location within six kilometres of the Panama City have been a boon to the travellers. Not only is the airport a medium to Panama City beach but the fact that it is surrounded by hotels and restaurants so near it make the arrangement very convenient for visitors.

In spite of all this a Panama City beach travel guide would tell you that, the airport faced by several problems was forced to move to a more viable location. The airport has two runways and if you travel to Panama City beach during the rainy season you will know exactly the reasons for considering relocation. Since the runways are not at a very great height above sea level, in that time of the year when hurricanes occur, it remains flooded.

Due to many reasons that are related to the environment and neighbourhood one of the runways was not even able to be extended so that a large jet could land on it. For these and other reasons the authorities decided that a new airport had to be built for people commuting to and from these beautiful beaches.

The new site for the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is not very far from the old one. It is supposed to be complete by the mid of 2010. The all new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is hoped to attract more people from all over, whether in America itself or other places like Europe, Asia and Australia to Panama City beach. It promises to make travel to Panama City beach a whole new experience.
